Good Bouncer skills

I love the "let us talk boldly like men do" line. Can't wait to try that one next time I'm in a potential scrap. All the arguments on here between Mick Coup and Brian S could have been avoided if either one of them had just used that.

This was situational. I am saying that this was used in this on incident but cannot be used in another. The bouncer seems to have known the patron.

That said, the first rule or training of a bouncer should be is to know how to communicate

My family owned a few pubs, and when I became of age, I became a manager

One thing I did not want was bouncers eager to use physical force, which not only will waste my time in court, but legal ramifications





BTW, I hope I am not troublesome, because once I continue to review the forum, I will be compelled to post quite often

That's a good point Nick,

But at what point could one be said to be talking too boldly?

I am all for talking boldly, and since seeing that video, my boldness of speech has escalated exponentially. But I sometimes feel that I am speaking with an unecessary level of boldness which could actually be counterproductive.

No one likes being spoken to boldly, and sometimes being too bold can cause "boldness envy" in one's interlocutor.

Well, it can be said, "Too much (or too little) of anything is not good"

Excuse my boldness but let us boldly go where other men have not...Might I be so bold as to say your interlocutor's problem with your hitherto greatly toned down boldness is his problem isn't it?

It took me a while to grasp this, especially when I became both bald and bold. Boldness by someone with a silly haircut and out of date fashion in no way intimidates...however, being bald and wearing ribald clothing can certainly have exactly the opposite effect. Again, is this not the problem of the recipient of such boldness?

would beg to differ.

Some aspire to baldness, others to boldness. Some go boldy bald, whilst others are baldly bold at the best of times.

It sounds obvious, but I think that bouncers should remember that they are paid to prevent trouble, not escalate it
for the sake of "testing" themselves or their art (if they have one).

I say this as works by guys like Geoff Thompson have probably (to some degree) popularised the notion that "the doors"
are a testing ground of sorts. And they are, but I feel that this should be incidental, a consequence of doing the job. Not the raison d'etre for doing the job.

This isn't intended to be disrespectful towards bouncers. Just one point along the way toward answering Richard's question.

Oh, and I don't think anyone bouncing should drink at all, or take any other form of drug, whilst on duty.

Eew...man-love & bromance, how very ribald.

BN; I bawled when I went bald which wasn't very bold. But I did NOT bawl when I bowled a perfect innings which was quite bold. I have also boldly balled at times both while being bald, and not being bald.

Ergo...I don't think it would be too bold to say

Balling Boldly while bald is as good as bowling boldly and both are better than bawling while balding un-boldly.

When I did run one of my family's pubs, we did not hire bouncers who could fight. We did not want to hire those that looked extremely tough, although tall and large were better than short and skinny for image.

In the US, bouncers can hurt a business in many legal issues.

Bouncers at our pubs, were not allowed to drink or fraternize with the customers.

Yeah, I was a bouncer, and many who claim to do this, sometimes use the term too loose as to give themselves credit to be a bad-ass fighter.

A good bouncer isn't a good fighter, but a good manipulator of drunk people and small crowds

I heard that story about you bawling when you went bald, but not the one about you bowling boldy. I don't remember: when you bowled boldy, were you bald at the time? If so, you were surely bowling boldly whilst (secretly) bawling over impending baldness. Was this the case?

Speaking boldly (as men do) yes, I was bowling boldly whilst bawling at my impending baldness. It was very hefty.
