I've had a big setback at work this week and its finally given me the kick up the arse I need to look for a career.

One of the avenues I'm pursuing is education, that is to say doing a course. My main problem with this is finances. I would like to do a full or part time course but really can't afford to leave my job.

Any advice or a plces to get advice would be welcome

For what type of course? Academic or vocational?

Try Open University, the libraries will have information on council funded courses and Business Link will have information on any funding availabe for vocational courses I would think.

How flexible are the hours with your current job? It would be much easier to do a course if you can volunteer for unpopular shifts (evenings, weekends) or take the odd week off in return for doing more hours at other times.

Funny you should mention that I'm on Flexible working hours, Can start any time between 7 and ten and only have to stay 4 hours, but must make a certain amount of hours through the month (a short day means working up the time later on in the month)

I really don't want to do open university want a course I can go to. An apprenticeship would do!

If you fancy teaching adults in something you have a qualification in then have a look at that. I took my 7306 back in 2000 and its helped me get all kinds of work. I think the course is called PETALS or something like that now. Basically it is an adult further education cert. You don't need to update it either. Just a thought and good luck
