Grappling vs knife
A pickpocket with a blade, not a good idea to grapple against a knife.

Nice video... definitely going into my video collection.
I would assume he didn't realize he had the blade, but seemed to figure that out pretty quickly.

Re: Grappling vs knife
Good video in that it really shows how grappling is quite limited against someone with a knife. Not that there is a lot of unarmed stuff that is guaranteed to beat a knife wielding assailant mind you......except a fast pair of feet for running!

Re: Grappling vs knife
granted that fast heels are better than fast hands, and granted that, and granted that gra[[ling may be 'limited', but as I sadly know, being attacked by knives/broken bottles more than once when doing the doors many years ago, you have to remember the following.
1. you often have no chance in running .. I certainly didnt
2. you have to do what you can to survive potnetial severe injury or death
3. damage limitation is the aim as damage eradication is almost impossible when dealing with edged weapons
4. grappling or impact or expedient weapons or indeed running are all subject to many criteria, that often you have no contreol over
you have to deal with what you are faced with, with what is available at the time

Absolutely Dave.
Every situation is different and yes, you do what you can to survive.
I too know people who have fought off attackers with knives....they described it as the most stressful, emotionally draining thing ever.

Re: Grappling vs knife
Bloody hell. I don't think he noticed the bloke had a knife or he'd have made more effort to control it. The poor sod. Does anyone know how he came out?
Yes it illustrates the point perfectly about knife defence

Me too... I don't believe the guy knew he had a knife. That's a dam hard lesson to learn.
Any post information on this one.... live, die anything?

I can't understand why he didn't try to control the knife hand if he knew the knife was there.

Re: Grappling vs knife
each person deals with trauma in a different way .. thats a question only he can answer
we tend to 'judge' situations based on our own personal viewpoints not others

Re: Grappling vs knife
I agree Dave, just I would of thought that most people would go straight for the knife hand. I dunno.......
