Daito Ryu Ju Jitsu..
Hi Dave hope you are well, A friend of mine is intrested in Daito Ryu Ju Jitsu..he says he beleives it to be one of the only HARD Jujitsu left that is still taught in the UK and Japan..he also says that it has a very high Drop Out Rate due to its harsh training...
Do you know anything about the above style...Do you know anything about the UK Setup and most importantly how does it Compare to the stuff Abbe taught....also is it relevant to Street Defence/Combat today?
many thanks..Dont mean to put you on the spot.....the Harsh training has just intrigued me!!!
Cheers

Re: Daito Ryu Ju Jitsu..
Put basically Daito Ryu was founded by a chap named TAKEDA, whom Ueyshiba learned the basis of his Aikido from..
Takeda by all accounts was a mean little bugger who took no prisoners.
Its just a tad too ju-jitsu-ey for my own personal tastes but sure aint 'mild'

Re: Daito Ryu Ju Jitsu..
One thing I have read about Daito Ryu is that they do their best to maintain (preserve ?) the quality of the art and teaching and still is one of the few real traditional Ju Jitsu arts left.

Re: Daito Ryu Ju Jitsu..
Samurai Aiki Jujutsu by Toshishiro Obata is a really good book for the history of Daito Ryu with a chapter devoted to Takeda, Shioda and Ueshiba.
I would highly recommend it.
