Re: My New website!
Looking good Si,
Can you make it so the video clips are viewable at full screen? Or am I doing it wrong?

Re: My New website!
Hi Si5, can I ask you something about your women self defense? I noticed it's offered by a lot of people, not just you but I was just wondering how you teach to defend against men with it being women only? Sorry if that sounds like a dumb question.

Not a dumb question at all, in fact its one of the best questions anyone can ask about teaching women. Should jump-start an interesting discussion.

Re: My New website!
OK
The courses are designed for women only for various reasons.
Women tend to feel more comfortable with other women - simple as that really!
(I mean women who do not usually train).
Why invite men on a course that is targetted at women defending themselves against men? Especially if these are men I don't know?
(you can go on about what if the bloke learns on another course how to fight blah blah blah what if what if but that gets us nowhere!)
The course of course is taught by myself, along with my co-instructor Jason (we are both men) and I have a female instructor there (which also helps women feel more comfortable).
When it comes to pressure testing, then obviously myself or Jason or even another of our trusted male students can play the part of attacker.
But NO I really don't see the point in allowing men on these courses.
Women are allowed to attend our normal courses (there is NOTHING that says otherwise).
However we feel that they are more likley to attend in a group (most bring a friend or two).
Also we are showing Anti-rape techinques that are more relevant to women (I have dealt with a male rape-at a hotel I was security at -not pretty).

Re: My New website!
Also ALL self defence is about concepts.
Does anybody train full on to start with? Hope not.
We slowly teach every (basic) technique, until there is a competence and confidence with it.
Then obviously we use pads, bags, bobs etc.
Then onto live opponents, which will likley be myslf or an assistant.
This will be done at different levels of force (and differing levels of verbal intimidation) until we feel they are ready to be attacked quite strongly.
It is not a requirement for anybody male or female to have to pressure test. This will not endear yourself to MOST members of the public, some people will just refuse to do it.
Women will be encouraged to land strikes on a live attacker and the attacker will let them have thier go - this will build their confidence, and then we can do an attack which is more pressurised and we will up the fear factor and make them actually fight to WIN!

Re: My New website!
It was the pressure testing that mainly triggered my question.I think it's just because it's called "women only" I assumed that they would only fight against women as well. For obvious reasons it's different to try and escape from a woman pinning me to the floor than a 6'2" bloke. And to be fair, I think it's quite important to fight through intimidation but that is probably easier in regular training where you can build up the intensity.
Thanks for your reply.
