March or Die

Hey Nick,

Recently I saw "Escape to the Legion", on the Military Channel. The D.I. spoke of a march over the Pyrenees wherein they cover 180km. over 3 eighteen hour days. Those that make the trek, recieve the Cape Blanco. When you were in the Legion, did they still have that brutal march.

Yes, I was in the Legion. Yes, I did that march back in 84 (the coldest winter in Europe in hundreds of years) when every other military unit in France was ordered to stand down due to the cold. As far as I'm aware the Legion still does that march for the right to wear the white kepi.

I'm working on a book about my time in the Legion and I go into that march in some detail...if I ever get the damn thing finished you'll be able to read about it there.
