Unfortunatley it seems like most forums, they are dying. I am not sure what is taking their place though?

Unfortunately interest seems to be tailing off on the site,we only have a very small amount of regular visitors and even fewer regular posters. Not sure if there's much that can be done about it,it's a shame as we've been around for a good few years now.

It is a shame as this was the go to place for information for many years.

The sad passing of Chris had a serious impact as well.

It can become the place to be again if we want it to be..

Yup, it is a bit sad as it brought people together from around the globe with common interests. I juts finished shutting down my streetwise forum for the same reasons. Social media has taken its place. At least till the next thing.

good luck

Mods - how long will you keep this open to see if there is a resurgance?

Does it cost you anything?

Hi Ace,

No it doesn't cost us anything to keep open so don't worry about losing anything soon.

dying a death? Empty Social Media

If I was the type of person to have an idea it might be along the lines of creating a Self Protection Dot Com Facebook page, and then contacting all the members on here inviting them to join.

Many people now log into Facebook everyday, so they are far more likely to click on it, and conversations could take place quite easily.

But I'm not that type of person.  Wink

Thinking about it, whoever sets up a self-protection FB site needs to be VERY careful with the privacy settings. I don't want my mum or my boss to see a debate on the best way to knock someone out when they log onto FB...

This used to be such a great forum. I liked it before as it was about all the good stuff re Self Protection but also interspersed with a bit of banter and piss taking which I thought gave it a more rounded feel.

Now I know that a lot of people didn't like the banter and attempts, sometimes pathetic I'll admit, at humour and I'll put my hand up and plead guilty to sometimes rising to the bait and getting into a piss-taking exchange. A lot of people thought, maybe rightly that it took away from all the self protection stuff.
Maybe, but I also thought that it gave the forum that 'live' feel of actually sitting around a table, maybe over a beer or two and chatting with like minded people and the banter etc gave a bit of an insight into people's characters and made you feel as if you knew them better.

I think that the beginning of the end was when one of the previous mods apparently introduced someone with the intentions of ruffling certain people's, or one person in particular's feathers. It developed into a 3 way feud between two members and the mod and spiraled out of control.

Next thing is I logged on and the forum had imploded. A real pity as I thought that this place was unique.

I suppose the facebook idea is in keeping with the times but some people don't want to join facebook for various reasons.
