When I did the doors in Manchester in the 1970's a lot of guys were trying our their own version of this, but due to lack of training from Bavarian Masters they only reached the falling over stages, because they were drinking th wrong 'beers'

Best thing about MMA at the moment is the fanbase and exposure for a genuine combat sport.

Worst thing about MMA is the fanbase and exposure. A lot of the spectators are idiots with no idea about the skillset on display. Surface level understanding only and baying for blood.

A lot of the fans would do well to go to a MA club or MMA club and train for a while. Hopefully they would pick up on the skill levels required to compete in such a sport, appreciate the discipline and dedication needed to continue to push yourself and learn how to be a better person.

Fortunately for MMA, most of the fighters do respect each other and have a certain level of dignity that is lacking in other sports (and other combat sports). Hopefully this doesn't diminish over time because trash talking gets pretty boring pretty quickly.

MMA is riding on the crest of a wave right now but that can crash at any time too (hopefully not as I'm a big fan).

I would actually disagree with the view that the majority of fighters are respectful and dignified. I find the majority have bought into the whole flash, brash, knock 'em on their ass nonsense that guys like Mayweather have elevated to an art form to sell fights.

It's the way of the fight game. Dignified, calm and respectful doesn't sell the same amount of tickets. Never has done.

The fans are just emulating the fighters. It's been the same since Figg was cracking guys about.

do we take the piss out of all the football fans who wear there teams shirt on a saturday afternoon ..... most of them have never stood one foot on a playing field or kicked a football.

I've watched quite a few post fight UFC press conferences and the fighters, generally speaking, are quite respectful of each other and their abilities. Yes there are some Mayweather types sneaking into it though but from what I've seen so far there is more good than bad.

Of coruse you're right about fight promos too, but then we all know hype sells and that's what the fighters are told to say about each other. You're not going to hear Chael Sonnen promoting his fight with Anderson Silva saying stuff like "My opponent is very talented, dangerous and a tough fighter. I'm quite concerned that I won't have the cardio or skills to beat him but I'm really going to try hard!"

In all seriousness, I don't really care what anyone wears unless it's a hot woman. Well, that's not exactly true, there are certain "uniforms" that scream thug to me. But MMA wear isn't an issue to me personally. Maybe because I have never met anyone wearing such apparel in the street, and so have no personnal frame of reference.

When it comes to MMA gear though, I would be more concerned for the wearer. As clothing like this may well attract hostility, a bit like going around in your karate gi or Kung Fu suit.

When it comes down to it, it's no one else's business what another person wears. As long as the MMA fight wearer isn't acting like a twit, then what's the problem?

Forgot to say that when I was on Cartmelpete's competition team, we all wore Lady Gaga fight shirts and leggings. Cartmel also wanted all the fighter's to wear six inch stilleto heels as well. Unfortunately, on the night the heels were premiered, one of my team mates slipped, broke his neck, and died instantly on his way to the ring. So that idea had to be knocked on the head.

Good point BN. I prefer my ninja gi complete with hood, sandles and claws for scaling office blocks.

I don't know why people are so negative towards it...ninja gi's are the height of coolness.
