Asked to do a self defence lesson Empty Asked to do a self defence lesson

I'm currently very excited to have been asked by a friend who is a pilates teacher to go and do a self defence lesson for her and some people in her area.

I've not been into SD for a while, apart from discussing it on here but I've a few week to bush up my skills and am both happy and confident about it... for once lol.

I've spoken to John Skillen about getting my teaching licence back with the BCA and he's happy to reccomend me for it.

Because it will be aimed at people who have experience and mostly women I'm starting with a half hour/hour talk on awareness and avoidance then another hour or so on pre empt palm strikes.slaps, then escaping from a standing hold and escaping from a grapple on the floor... depends on the matting available.

All told I want it to last two hours or so all told just so people aren't getting bored

If there is an interest I might do some more lessons

I can honestly say I'm stoked to get back into such things

Can you post a report of what you taught, how you think it all went and any feedback from your students, always nice to hear how things go

I will and with pleasure.

Also perhaps I can get some feed back on my current plans...

First an hour awarenerss and avoidance lesson, little break for a cup of tea or whatever, then into a lesson on palm strikes for the main weapon... the rest of the lesson with revolve around using that weapon in various situations.

I want to keep it very simple and fastish paced, but also quite light hearted

In debate as to weather to have it in December or January... The appeal of december is of course people looking for something before the christmas parties and january for people wanting to sweat off the turkey...

January might be a good one, new year, new resolutions etc, when I was teaching I saw a definate pick up in the new year, sadly it did tail off over the course of a few months and back to the usual regulars

I think the dates are to be set at December the 7th and second Saturday in January, whatever that date is.

Not greatly bothered by starting a business here its more a project for my own self. In fact I wasn't even really wanting to get paid

Doing an informal session today at berwick fight centre and I must admit nerves are playing up a little bit Smile

Writing my lesson plan now, only going to be a couple of people there this morning but want to make a good impression.

This is designed to get me back in the game so to speak. Will welt you know how it goes

It went ok. I had an hour and two people, which was to be expected in a dry run organized three days in advance.

One person arrived late which threw my lesson plan up in the air a bit and I was told Imight have slowed my teaching down slightly though in all honesty they both managed to pick up what I was telling them.

I covered a palm strike and some progressive appliations for ie pre empt and in defence after a bock/arm strike

Both are not looking forward to the main course... he poster of which I will make when someone invents the eight day week lol

I'm glad to hear it went well bud and if the comment on the speed of the class was the only negative then very well done.
