How Do You Feel?
You all these guys who claim to have taught every soldier and his uncle... the 'specialists'... the 'tough guys'...
The same guys who put out DVDs claiming to be able to teach your granny to kick butt in 2 minutes...
What goes through your mind when you see those ads?
I know my first reaction is something like, "Yeah, yeah, you and every other Tom, Dick and Harriet."
The same guys who put out DVDs claiming to be able to teach your granny to kick butt in 2 minutes...

It leaves me feeling insecure and inadequate as I am desperate to join them.

Re: How Do You Feel?
I can't read or write, so the content of these ads means nothing to me. I just stare at the photos and wonder how what sort of beauty routine these people go through to have such fabulous hair and teeth.
Then I have another bucket of Stella.

Re: How Do You Feel?
I actually like to read them and think about the marketing techniques used in the adverts.
I've seen some ads and thought about all the other campaigns that use the same headlines but for different products with small word changes
'7 secrets other martial artist won't teach you'...........'7 secrets other life insurance salesmen won;t tell you'
'6 minutes a day to great abs'............'6 minutes a day to become a devastating kicker'
'increase your cock size in 30 days'.......... 'increase your punching power in 30 days;
its like all the marketing companies have the same book and use it for every client

Re: How Do You Feel?
cringe worthy if you ask me. A load of hype. Even if they can actually do what they claim (and a lot of them can) it would realy put me off going ot see them.
I went off the dog brothers for years because of their ads/videos/horsing about....

Re: How Do You Feel?
The reason those guys use that marketing is because it works. Good marketers test every piece of stuff they put out. One ad goes out with one headline and another goes with one word in the headline changed. They'll change the font size and type, they'll change the background colour and use a different image.
They then figure out the response each piece gets..they reject the ones with a low response rate and tweak the ones that get a good response and so it goes.
End result is you're seeing the ads that got the highest possible response rate which should be telling you more about the people you live amongst than about the marketing guys or the guys they're selling for.

It also shows who they are trying to attrract, people who will part with large mounts of money quickly and they don't really care if they come back as they just want a massive on eoff hit.

If they really were that clever, couldn't they do two campaigns? For example, one aimed at complete beginners who want to become ninjas with as little sweat as possible; and a second one aimed at people who are already practicing martial arts and want to do some cross-training.

You're right. They do work.
But that's not my point.
Just a few days ago I brought up this point on a copywriting forum. We were discussing some of the ads on the TRS site and Tim Larkin's site.
The guy who wrote those ads is one of my copywriting teachers. He's definitely among the top five copwriters in the US.
When you see his ads they really make you want to buy.
However - and this is the point I made on that forum - the ad is usually better than the content on the videos.
If you're someone new to martial arts, you might feel it's good stuff.
But, if you're like the majority of people on this forum, you're going to feel let down. Especially if you've paid the amount of money someone like Tim Larkin charges.

Re: How Do You Feel?
Oh, I agree totally...their stuff is lame.
I work on the UPOD principle i.e. Under Promise and Over Deliver. Most marketers tend to go for OPUD instead.
Caveat Emptor I guess.

Re: How Do You Feel?
I remember the good old days of me making a poster on Word or somesuch, nipping down the printing shop and then wallpapering the mainstreet of town with them.
I recall the day I agreed to use a hall with someone, got all my posters done and then he phoned back and told me I coudnt have the hall... one legged git.
Urgh with a record like that its not wonder I'm a miserable sod lol
