Grand master Paul Bowman?

Hi I've seen a 4hr seminar of this man covering pressure points etc. Just wondered if anyone knows anything about him or if the seminar would be worth going to. Its not too expensive but dont want to spend 4hrs sitting around not learning anything good.

dont know him or even heard of him, but that means zilch

however depending upon your level, there should be many stages to this work

Hope this doesnt come caross too cheeky, but my association is holding an introduction to this stuff later this year and the cost will be under £30 per person, seminar in Doncaster

other than that google him several ways and see what comes up.... there's a fair bit of un-necessary taught in this subject

you'll notice all his students pass out, the journalist and the MMA guys aren't effected at all.

There's also the famous Dilman clip demonstrating the same nonsense.

My take on it is it's hard enough to hit someone in the head in a fast moving fight let alone try and hit some point the size of a pound coin. Ask cops who try and use this at work and they get very mixed results. Against someone bigger stronger and determined (the only opponent who's worth training to beat by the way) they don't get good results at all.

In class rooms, absent adrenalin, they still only work on a percentage of people.

Do I use them? Yep, if I'm going to grab someone anyway I may as well use the anatomical weak spots - who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and get someone very susceptible - rather than just anywhere but I'm not going to count on them in a real go.

Anywhere is a pressure point if you hit it hard enough.

Cheers thanks for the info. I should have had a quick look on youtube first really before posting. It does look a little bit useless for any practical application and a little bit more seminar trickery, that looks really good but wont work when you need it.

how can you judge a man by a few YouTube videos?

its a 4hr seminar what have you to lose? I lost 4hrs visiting my in laws this weekend. is your life so action packed that you'll miss 4hrs?

would you pay 4 hrs of your life to me to show you a single move that could one day stop you getting your head kicked in? he might show 3hrs 55mins of utter crap but I would guess he knows at least 5mins of useful stuff.

But wouldn't it be better to take the 5 minutes worth of useful stuff actually train it for an hour an then not bother with the 3 hours 55 minutes of as you say utter crap?

Looking at the You Tube stuff I wouldn't walk around the corner to see this guy, let alone pay money.

I agree with Mr Hughes... though I would add striking as well... aim small to hit big.


I spent a good number of years doing my best to study and understand pressure points and their application and how it fit into what I do. Much of what he is showing in the videos follows a TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) science, but that is much easier studied than it is applied.

Personally, I think it's good knowledge to have and I have LE students that have been able to apply it and with mixed, but good results. They keep using them. But like Nick has already stated. "they still only work on a percentage of people."

On the Stun Gun video around the 3.34 min mark he tries his mumbo jumbo on a guy in a green t-shirt (to no effect I may add) I could be wrong but that guy looks a lot like Stephan Bonner UFC Light heavyweight. Can anyone confirm this?

I teach and train pressure points but always emphasise that yuou shouldnt go looking for them. However ours tend to be great big pressure points not fiddly little ones hidden away in parts that even certain beers cannot reach.

I always teach them like i would a joint lock, they are both incidental and accidental, never go looking for them.

Third party intervention is about the only time you can deliberately target it with any success, as my instructor demonstrates everytime my focus is only on the guy in front of me instead of the one about to sucker punch me, funny how that really concentrates the mind.
