Squat or Deadlift?
Hi Dave
I don't always have the luxury of training partners to spot me and i don't like squatting heavy without spotters, also a previous knee injury makes me wary of heavy squatting oh and my air squat form has a long way to go!
My deadlift on the other hand seems to be coming along nicely, pulled 90kg x 3 the other day which was a record for me.
Im just wondering if there is something im missing by not heavy squatting? is the deadlift not a worth subsitute?
Also what weights are good milestones when it come to deadlifting.
Thanks

Re: Squat or Deadlift?
To add on from buster question, as percentages of body weight what are milestones for deadlifts and squats in your personal opinion?
Also the straddle lift does not seem popular these days, is this a shame or not in your opinion?

Re: Squat or Deadlift?
I like deadlifts, but not so much as a 'singles' exercise.. the strain on the back is quite considerable when forcing out singles.
but as repping move and with the back well warmed up, you can get a lot of benefits from it
Squats are in my opinion almost a core exercise whenever possible, but deadlifts are good.
weights .. bodyweight for reps was always our goal, then 1.5 times bodyweight an ultimate to work for for reps.
I like the look of those 'trapbars' but they are a touch expensive arent they..
if you do 2 sets x 50 reps free squats, then the deadlifts, your legs will know they have been well worked.

Re: Squat or Deadlift?
A dead lift?
I do a bit of this stuff. lol I'm not even sure what you call what I do.
My routine is pick the bar up from in front of me, stand up and lift it above my head then back down so its not quite touching the floor and I do that as many times as I can, which is normally about 8ish.
Sometimes I do that and then left the bar rest on my shoulders then rais it befro returning it to just off the floor.
I think i got about 46kg including bar, amd I meant to be lifting my body wieght??? cos that;s like 95.... I feel weak.
