Attempted /Child Abduction
I was in a meeting in London earlier this evening. got a phone call from my wife. Our daughter had walked 100 yards to the local shop. at 6.30pm last night. She was coming out of it and a guy grabbed her and tried to get her into a vehicle. someone intervened and got her to run.
I'm not sure why i'm sharing this exactly. I cant sleep. it's 4am. Cant stop crying to be honest. Wont talk about other details. I'm kinda worried i get into a situation best left to the police. Our close area is a focal point. I know all about even writing this can get me in trouble down the line. you can tell then i dont want to be an asshole. I'm well against illegal activity. THe police need to be allowed to do their job. Ther'e somsething else inside me though. Makes things a challenge. I dunno, it must be something primal, paternal, whatwever.
Damn it. she;s only a small kid. why do these things happen. She was acted very well. I'm so proud of her. Fought back, screamed. and some other things. It's that fighting spirit. Even for kids. not enough to over-power an attacker, but enough to distract or get attention.
Cause of my lifestyle, i've always been very security conscious. Kids always only playing aroud the house. within a 100 yards where we could see. Now i cant let them out anymore. At least not without me being in the street. I dont even think i can teach anymore. I have to have them around me at all times. And my classes aren';t for kids. I'm cancelling all my activities.
Maybe we could have this topic to share ideas, etc, about how to help protect kids in these kinda situations?

It's 4am, your tired and emotional. One of a parents biggest fears has almost happened to you.
How old is she?
You can't cancel your life and you can't prevent everything. As she grows she will resent you if you try and stop her doing everyting for her safety.
To be honest, partners and children are the hardest things in self protection.
It didn't happen, the predator almost got caught, it is unlikely he will be back there again, your daughter did well, build on that.

Re: Attempted /Child Abduction
Must've been terrifying,i'm so relieved it came out ok.
Your little'un did the right thing, you can be proud of that.
Don't beat yourself up over it Wayne, parenthood is a none-stop procession of "i should have been there" moments mate.I kind of know how you're feeling (only kind of),one of my kids had to run from an adult assailant a few years back, when he was 11.He handled it brilliantly,i handled it terribly and had things gone the way i wanted them i'd probably be in prison...for a long while.

All of life is risk management.
You do what you can, you mitigate the risk as much as possible but you can never eradicate it.
Take heart when exposure to the threat becoming reality isn't unavoidably life changing and move on learning whatever lessons can be learned.
There really isn't anything else to be done.

Not much to add mate. Everything went according to plan...she got away and she's safe in your care. Bad guys 0, Good Guys 1.

As a father with a young daughter I can understand your anger and want for revenge.
I know the good guys won in this case, and we can be grateful for that, but I can't help but feel that if I was in your shoes, I would want to enact some sort of retribution too.
We are human after all.

Re: Attempted /Child Abduction
Wow scariest thing that could happen!
But it turned out well brilliant in fact.
Dont feel guily, dont over worry, I know you do but you don't need to.
Your daughter did great, you must be a good parent.
These things are so rare it will never happen again.
She survived this thats all you need to concentrate on.
