Submision Grappling

I have recently joined a submission wrestling class,my reasons being mainly two incidents at work.

The first being when i had a guy pinned against a wall with his arm up his back,he has managed to power out of it and in the process i managed to fall on the floor and crack my knee,the 2nd was a guy that kicked off just as we where about to escort hin backstage,it ended up with me and most of the mall security pinning him till the cops came.
Both incidents have highlighted skill and grappling strength specific deficiences.

So i thought the grappling class would be a good idea to develop the grappling strength that i need. I don't want to get comfortable on the floor but i was wondering if there was any techniques i can take from it that would work outside the dojo? It's a judo club if that helps.
It would be good to take some workable techniques as well as the grappling strength from the class.

like most martial arts, its the adaptable applications that matter..

in my association we have all types of 'grapplers' from traditional wrestlers, MMA fighters, Judo, Ju-Jutsu etc..

however over the past 40 years or so I have put together an interpretation of many aspects of these styles and also teach "Combat Street Grappling" as a style that can be graded in.

This means that the moves (hopefully) are the best for street and self-defence use, therefore the situations in training would be 'non-sport' etc.

anything is better than nothing, but a specalist street grappling style is better than a rigid restrictive sport style
