Would a cupped-hand strike to the base of the jaw knock a horse out?

If not, how would I go about knocking out a large herbivore like a horse or cow?

If a horse has got the hump with you a good slap on the side of the mouth will usually put it off the idea.

Actually dropping the poor beast is probably a tad excessive IMHO, but it would look funny in the video clips on the news later that day pirat
