Looks interesting, a bit pricey.. in U.S. dollars it would be like 52.00 per dvd. On one of the screen shots it shows a rotation option. Am I to assume you can look at the all of the various techniques from those additional angles. Plus what would be the shipping costs to the U.S.?

Not working for me Alun.

The DVD section does have a paypal link, but it fails and announces "invalid data."

And, as you are probably aware, the shop site is still under construction.

Just so you know mate!

Hi Roadkill

Yes 5 different camera angles for each technique, including top-down on all. Also you can flip the technique to see it from the opposite side, again from 5 angles, something of a first we believe in Martial Arts DVD's.

The cost is reasonable at £24.99 when you think its taken 6 years from concept to produce, has over 2hrs of material, superior production quality with CGI, full body/skeleton breakdown, extras with commentary on every technique AND Postage is FREE including US!!!!! - so we think its fair! cheers I've seen 20 minute DVD's on the market that cost similar.

Hi Brian - Paypal was working fine, this morning, with several sales taking place, including USA - I'll get straight onto it though.

Thanks for letting me know.

I also think the price is reasonable. Some in the genre merely point a camera at the head Honcho and then they wing it for the entire vid. To see such care go into a production should inspire many others.

No worries Alun. The production values look superb and the price tag seems more than fair to me.

I'll post a full review after I've given it a good look.

I must say that is pretty slick. I have collected a ton of videos over the years and none have looked any where close to that production quality. I ordered mine yesterday and I look forward to seeing it.

Out of curiousity.. is that background all CG?

Thank you Mr Williams, Hi Roadkill, the set, well it's both live action and CGI, two versions of the set were built one CGI, one live action. On the real set we had a gallery about 15 ft up and maybe 150 feet away, that's the standard of the live action shot and what you see across technique menus. The set itself had a lot of lighting around 60,000 watt back lit and front lit, and it could do a few tricks. The CGI part was composited with the live action shot, and a camera match made with the live action. It was not done just to be clever or gimmicky, the idea came about watching people wander from one side of a demo on the mat to the other to get a better understanding. Al and other instructors show a thing a few times from a few angles so people can get there head around the body position. How you engage an opponent and your position is vital. So we kicked this around for a time, and the best way was undoubtedly to fly around the guys and see it from all sides. Our first test shoot for the topdown view was pretty mad. Up on a gantry a good 75 feet or more shooting down. It was good for showing fast footwork. But when we came to the shoot to get more detail we used a tower cam (a single story thing on wheels with a ladder up to it and a jib fixed on top of that, with a remote monitor) that got closer to the action. The CGI set that was built with the real set for reference took longer. We then we flew virtual cameras around stuff and got that to square with live action shots. The point of it is to show where you are and were the guys are, giving you a little more visual text to explore a technique and also to provide the viewer with there choice of position.
Martial artists are generally very good at reading body position they know it's vital to attack and defend, the set structure was designed to add to that knowledge. We shot the hell out of everything with this in mind, wide, mid and clos-up's that got in peoples faces. In that way this virtual dojo was born. Goshinkwai is very dramatic in action, these guys are not actors when they are angry, they are angry and the reaction to a technique is generally pretty real, in some takes very real. The best shot in the world is only as good as it's subject. We hope you like the DVD and look forward to your comments. We are in production on Disc two and if something can be improved, or a better way of doing something comes to you that's all good.

I can only suggest you send a cheque as detailed earlier on in the thread

Thanks

Phew!

Managed it.

I got updated spy protection and had to fiddle about a bit to allow the paypal site to download it's cookies.

All that makes me sound cleverer than I am.... it took ages!

Looking forwards to absorbing the material.

Hi Brian, we are having some problems with the German Post.
Your stuff will get sorted. However if you want a refund
just let me know and I'll send a check right to you. I'm on
this and I'm burning rubber tomorrow to get this sorted out.
I have been away for a week or so, and this has been a shock,
unfortunately we are sometimes compromised by circumstances
outside of our control. So much has gone into this, it's very
tough for us to put up with, but that's our problem and not yours
so just let me know and I'll get the check to you ASAP and mail
you a free copy when it shows.
