Stretch and Chopper? Empty Stretch and Chopper?

Hi Nick,

I was reading one of your posts about Zen Do Kai, and you mentioned a guy called Stretch who was a great street fighter. In Mark Brandon Read's first book, Chopper From the Inside, he mentions boxing a well known streetfighter called Strecth. Read loses and, sore loser that he is, proceeds to confront Stretch while he's working the door. Read Sucker punches him and gives him a good kicking.

I just wondered if you thought it could be the same Stretch. Assuming Chopper's story is true. It has been said that Chopper has been a bit liberal with the truth in some of his tomes.

Regards,

Mate,

It's possible it's the same guy but I honestly don't know. Anyone over 6 feet tall in Oz at one time was called "stretch" as anyone who had red hair was called "bluey"

No telling.

Mate, I never had a nickname (no pun intended) at all except for "Hughesy"

I think it's because I began working as a kid and then grew into the part rather than just turned up fully grown.

The Legion was the only place I had one i.e. Le Grand (as in Great Big Muthaf**ka) because compared to the frogs and spaniards I was big.

Over here I'm just average size again Sad so no more nicknames.

Nick

PS: Teapot was self administered and could hardly be used as a nickname lest you're wondering. I could hardly walk into a bar "G'day, I'm Teapot." Very Happy
