100th TOPIC? - The real MA messiah!
Probably the 100th topic post here Nick - unless someone beat me to it.
Here goes:
It seems many of us are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the real MA messiah.
What am I on about?
Every now and then a new MA master-guru-trainer arrives on the scene, either by advertisement, website, forum etc. Seems to have all the moves and all the answers – reality based system, tried and tested, used secretly by…, recommended by…..etc
Result: MA students flock like months to a lamp and can’t get enough, quick enough.
In time it becomes apparent that the new guru/messiah is human after all, and most of his unique techniques were already being used by others years before. The information age sees to it that this process doesn’t take very long any more.
Where does that leave many of us: Back anxiously awaiting the arrival of the real MA messiah.
Nick, have I had too much to drink today, or does the pattern above look familiar?

Re: 100th TOPIC? - The real MA messiah!
It's a very profitable pattern. People like to be among the first to do something or have something. That's why people spend ungodly amounts of money on a new car when they could get a perfectly good used one for a fraction of the cost.
There never will be a Martial Arts Messiah that has all the answers and moves. Once something is shown to work, people look for a way to undo it. Combat evolves and with it the needs and application of manuevers. The basics will always be there and found in almost every system, but other things will change.
Of course when someone finally figures out how to generate psychic attacks... that'll be pretty effective. Until someone figures out who to block them or counter

I don't know if it's so much the person as the system. Ever since I've been doing martial arts there's been a new flavour of the month every few years.
Originally it was Judo. There was Joe Jutsu on Dick Tracy, Our Man Flint's Judo chop and judo chops in wrestling and on James Bond (Goldfinger had Honor Blackman - the real deal by the way -- doing Judo with Sean in the barn at Goldfinger's ranch)
After that I believe it was Karate, then came Kung Fu. The first big hit world wide was "Five Fingers of Death" which opened up the field for Bruce Lee.
After Bruce came Billy Jack and Hapkido. Billy Jack, a horse riding, arse kicking preacher who was an ex green beret.
I lost touch of what came in what order then...Remy had a surge with Philipino stick and knife, then came kick boxing.
Bando popped up for a while, then Tai Chi, then a huge surge of ninjutsu in the early eighties...
After the ninjutsu fizzled there was a big surge in Aikido thanks to Screaming Seagull and his movies.
After that went away the Gracies came next followed quickly by MMA for those attracted the sporting side of things and Krav Maga and RBSD for those more concerned with all things practical.
What will it be next? Who knows. Probably some lost Norwegian Viking art or some such bollocks...or the deadly art of the Australian Aboriginal Kanga-ryu or some Tahitian skull crushing form. The only thing I am certain of is there will be another one...and every jackass and his dog will flog to it thinking it's the next best thing.
Why do they keep flitting from system to system...because inside, they're scared, and they keep hoping the new stuff will show them how to overcome their fear or provide all the answers.

The lost Norwegian Viking art has been done, Nick... at least, as a spoof website:

Made me laugh anyway.

Funny-I read a website by a guy who advertised that he had experience in Apache hand-to-hand combat. Never mentioned where he learned it...

Barry 'The Cougar' Dawson!!
Over here in Oz Cougar bourbon are running an advert campaign featuring Barry ‘The Cougar’ Dawson. Dawson is a spoof character possessing the mastery of ‘man-skills’.
In reality ‘The Cougar’ is a high kicking, MA wanker with porn star mo and poor dress sense. But hey, he’s ‘The Cougar’.
A quick web search will bring a brief visit from the ‘The Cougar’ to your world!

There was a guy in the U.S that was selling Verbal Judo packages to law enforcement agencies around the world.
On his tape he rambled on about his ninjitsu training and being brought up by Apache Indians.
He ended up suiciding.
