self-protection are the measures you take to try as best as you can to ensure the confrontation you are in DOESNT go physical
Talking, moving, awareness, avoidance etc etc

self-defence are the methods you use when SP hasnt solved the problem and it DOES go physical
from the Fence and/or guard through the pre-empt to the ground if need be
