street fighting
Some thoughts on training for the street: pre emptive striking, wrestling. eye gauges, throat strikes, groin strikes, underhooks, head butts. Bigger faster opponents, opponents with weapons, opponents on ICE,cocaine, alcohol, psychotic opponents who perceive you as someone who wants to murder them , even though you are just standing at a coffee shop with your Kids, opponents well trained in MMA, the will to kill, pride and arrogance that turns to fear and incapacitation when one is under real threat of harm, unrealistic training, scenario training, instructors who have never fought for there life, protecting ones family, fitness, conditioning, acclimatising to violence, realistic appraisal of ones ability, simplicity, verbal deescalation, first aid, tenacity, courage, past trauma, freezing, psychological limitations, going in stages, anger as fuel, being prepared for injury during training, the limits of training, giving your life to save another.

A great clip of Dennis Jones. I feel fortunate to have received some instructions from him.

Re: street fighting
There is a lot of wisdom in a simple approach. Usually we are attracted to things which are complicated, colourful and expensive. Simple does not necessarily mean easy. Its clear that one needs to practice these techniques for many years. I once heard that the first stance/movement in certain katas are the essence of the particular art and the hardest to perfect.
