25 Years later
Haven't picked these things up for about 25 years...seriously glad I pulled it off without whacking my elbows, head, knees etc
Re: 25 Years later
Nice... It's obvious you put in the time back then and the skill set is still there.
Re: 25 Years later
It surprised me...bit like riding the proverbial bicycle I guess. I literally picked them up and started swinging and it pretty much all came back. Might try playing with the Sai next.

Re: 25 Years later
So what were those exercises for Nick? Just cardio and learning the feel of the weapon?
I ask only because many many years ago as a young man I was always keen on using such things, but it was continuously shouted down by my then karate instructor. He had numerous reasons and in fairness had never been on our syllabus but I think it boiled down to he couldn't do anything with them himself.
I used to learn kata from books and what have you. Did a few exercises in the garden and all that, like your good self not touched a pair for well over ten yeas now probably.

Re: 25 Years later
It's a form of kata with the weapon yes. All of the flipping (furi) were various methods of striking and recovery with the weapon. There's also another entire section with the nunchaku which involves locking, twisting, crushing, blocking, capturing etc.

on a side note;
I like the actual filming, it has an edgy feel to it.... not fully lit, in black & white
put a hardcore death-metal soundtrack on it and it could be a popular YouTube vid.

Mickey.
If I wasn't a techno peasant I would but I am and have no clue how to do that. The track I'd put to it would be Tomayusa Hotei's "Battle Without Honor" from his live clip seen here (one of the best training tracks I've ever worked out to BTW)
