Gadget Shop
Hey all
Just a quick question. What's your favourite gadget or piece of kit?
The toy that if you lost it you would immediately replace it?
Watch, torch, sat nav, boots, knife, phone etc etc.
Cheers Chris

Re: Gadget Shop
which pistol and which folder do you advocate Nick?
I'm liking the samsung tablet, it's a rebel that doesn't cave and go with the easy ipad choice
As someone who has worked in high risk situations rather than a bystander were there particular types of clothing/boots you went with. I can't move these days at the airport without bumping into guys in head to toe in under armour, north face and high gear boots!

Re: Gadget Shop
I'm also interested in your choice of tac folder Nick...
My most used gadget, apart from my phone(how boring!),is an EOD Breacher Bar.It get's used daily, for all sorts of things.
Oh,and my Doc Martens!
I have lots of other "gadgets",but legal constraints prevent their regular use

Re: Gadget Shop
I normally have a Glock 9 milly but I sold it and a mate has lent me a Ruger in the meantime. I want my Glock (or a 1911 or Smith & Wesson M&P) back.
I have several folders...EDC is usually my Emerson but I use the Cold Steel Rajah from time to time (on trips further away from home). The only one I won't ever use after two failures is a Spyderco...nearly took my fingers off with their crap.
Yep...love my Samsung 7inch but might still end up with an Ipad as well as there are certain apps for my business available on that platform that aren't on Android as of now.
Re the guys you see...yes, Marcus made the point years ago some guys set themselves up as targets by the way they dress because it screams operator. It's hard to have the appropriate gear but not alert people that you might have skills. 5.11 gear over here is a dead give away as were the old (don't see them much anymore) fanny packs.

to be fair a lot of them are probably forces staff these days. As I understand it a lot of armed forces are buying their own kit before deployment because what is being issued by the British army is rubbish. None of them wear issued boots for example, they all spend good money on decent footwear.
I take Marcus' point. I remember a few years ago asking him about how he organised his kit for travel and he was very gracious with his knowledge and advice. Top bloke. I'm a fan of his thrillers as well, got 'em all on paperback or kindle.
I've heard very little good about spyderco folders and very little bad about Emerson. I can see why you chose it. Beretta make some fantastic folders and they wont break the bank. Strong and very well designed/finished.

Whilst trying to avoid this becoming a tactical folder thread.....
I've heard good and bad about both spydies and emersons, although i've never heard of an emerson failing...the criticisms on emersons are generally fit and finish issues(which is probably not a huge problem in a hostile enviroment).I've heard of spydercos failing occasionally, but their aftersales service is legendary(which is irrelevant in a hostile enviroment) I have 4 spydies, and they are outstanding knives...
...but try an "Extrema Ratio",and you will be very impressed!

Kershaw 1670TBLKST (U.S. made) The only thing I don't like about it, is the gritty grip it has under the clip. Adds too much resistance or can get hung up when accessing.

Re: Gadget Shop
I was chatting to a guy on a course I did at work ( one of the few interesting ones ) and he was saying he wasn't fond of Glocks and preferred smith and wesserns.
Ironically it earned me a lot of the normal stick for going and discussing guns with him as per fecking usual but hey ho.
But the only bit of kit I carry is a leatherman. Little one with a clip so it just hangs in your pocket. Use it all the time useful as hell.

Yes it does... I only wish I was better at sharpening.
Re: Gadget Shop
Mate,
Spyderco has a dvd out that you can get that teaches you all about their sharpening system...it's the one I use and it works.

Re: Gadget Shop
The "Sharpmaker" Nick?
I've heard that's an excellent piece of kit.I have the cheaper "version" of it ,by Lansky, which does the job very well.
