Training Aids
Has anyone ever made anything remotely resembling a punch bag, wall bag, makawarra (dictionary) when you couldn't afford the real thing, even anything close to a century bob, that has done the job ? I have in the past used stuff like phone books suspended from pull-up bars, even tried to make a wooden dummy type thing, I ask as anything good should be shared in these times of tough living !

Re: Training Aids
Phone books make good wall bags, yes.
I've made a couple of cheap heavy bags as well. Get an old kit-bag from an army surplus store for five to ten quid. Fill it with building sand. Hang it from a tree. You can also use it for strength training...

Re: Training Aids
Yep, made a freestanding wooden dummy out of bits of 2x4 glued / screwed together. Used Hard wood for arms. got bits of foam tied on with rags for when i want to hit it.
Strap a used tyre to it to make a striking post for stick/knife work.
Also have a speed ball which is an old mini football wrapped up in a towel. Attach it to garage ceiling with some old bungee straps and to a sand filled bucket on floor.

Re: Training Aids
Govinda. There's a couple of books out on the subject. I haven't read the one by Janich but I have read this one and it was good.

Re: Training Aids
Afterall, the martial artists of generations past, used whatever they had available. I'm sure they did just go out and buy training equipment at a sporting goods store.
