Turkish Get Up variations
Has anyone tried the overhead squat variation of the Turkish Get Up?
I'm finding the normal "lunging" style a bit hard on my tired old knees and wondered if this variation might be kinder

Re: Turkish Get Up variations
Why not experiment with a few different styles without a kettlebell? If you find a style that doesn't hurt, get loads of reps in without a bell, then try it with a 12k. There's no need to start off with a big weight...

Re: Turkish Get Up variations
You can always try a "no hands" TGU either up to your feet or just to sitting up.
- Lie on your back as normal with the KB held up.
- Have your legs spread out a bit past shoulder width.
- Sit-up while looking at the KB without using your free arm.
- Once you get to sitting position try and stand without using your free arm.
It's fairly hard and just another variation.

Re: Turkish Get Up variations
I've decided it's more my knee that's to blame then the exercise,my arthritis seems to have re-grouped and launched another offensive! walking's interesting at the moment, let alone TGU's.. marvellous.
...and my AC joint is tellin' me it don't like TGUs' either...time for a rethink, maybe

What about some core work without the KB's Ade? V-ups are pretty hard and don't require any weight.

I'll probably just revert back to ab-wheel roll outs and kb clean n' press...i seem to be able to do those quite hard a couple of times a week without too much achey painy nonsense

Can you do step ups? Good way of working the legs despite dodgy knees...

Might try a bit of yoga, I heard it does wonders for arthritis. Also I'm with Mr Nobody on the V Ups

And in the spirit of scratching each others backs, I'm with Jagunco on the yoga Ade. Give it a shot as you have nothing to lose.

Re: Turkish Get Up variations
re the yoga...i was doing the "sun salution" everyday a year or so ago.But one of my AC joints developed a problem which stopped me doing some of the poses...and i kind of gave up and didn't bother with it again.I know a couple of yoga teachers,i probably owe it to myself to go see one of them and see what they can do with me
(if i was a car i'd have been made into tin cans long ago )
