Deadliest Warrior Update
Spike TV here in the US has finally made the announcement so I'm allowed to say who I went up against in the upcoming Season III of Deadliest Warrior.
I represented the Legion in WWII v the Ghurkas...
Not sure if and when you guys get it in the UK but a lot of you asked me about so now you know.
More details to follow

Re: Deadliest Warrior Update
He wasn't that good mate. In fact the producers were screwed when my knife work was better than his. They pulled me to one side and said "you've put us in a pickle because we'd planned for him winning the knife section based on what we've heard about them."

Re: Deadliest Warrior Update
I'm not giving away anything they wouldn't want me to. All he was saying was they all figured, based on what they'd heard about the Kukri, that the Gurkhas would win the knife section. Messed their scheduling etc up when I was better.
There are a slew of things I can't say though - sadly. They'll have to wait for a PM to a few of you.

Send me that PM Nick!!
I love that show. It's like "Superman vs Mighty Mouse" with a production budget!!
Isn't it unfair that you could probably surround a platoon of Gurkhas all by yourself?

Re: Deadliest Warrior Update
I have to ask going off the average height of a Gurka.. what was the size difference? Also who was your partner... and finally.. I strongly suspect you're encouraged to heckle each others stuff... is this true?

Re: Deadliest Warrior Update
Not sure what their average height and weight is but the one I was up against was about 5'5 and I'm 6'8. It wasn't a strongman competition though...it was a bolt action rifle, a GPMG and combat knives so the size disparity was largely irrelevant.
Chris...when I get home I'll cut and paste the QT email from my face book that I sent to some mates in the know.

Re: Deadliest Warrior Update
Sorry...he was assisted by a Brit officer who used to be seconded to the 6th Gurka Rifles and I was assisted by a Texas history professor who's specialty was the Franco-Prussian wars.
Yes...there was much heckling but it was frustrating for a lot of reasons. To give you an example he couldn't load his weapon (the armourer had to help) but was allowed to heckle me about being a slower shot (he had a stripper clip and I had to load by hand and he got 3 out of 10 shots on target whereas I got 9 and a graze). When i mentioned he couldn't even load they called "cut" and told me I couldn't say that because the bit about him not loading would be edited out.
There was a lot of stuff like that...

Re: Deadliest Warrior Update
I would love to hear about it as well.
And what you mention is the problem with TV, only what they want gets shown.
Also this shows it is the man, not the system that counts!

Yeah Nick I'd love one of those there PM's. Also I just thought the size thing was funny, not that it actually mattered. He couldn't even load it? Was it a design he was unfamiliar with?

Re: Deadliest Warrior Update
It's on!!!!
For anyone in the States, next Wed night at 9pm EST I'll be on Spike TV's Deadliest Warrior episode against the Gurkha.
A mate in the UK told me that he couldn't view the link I sent so you might try going to spike tv and the deadliest warrior section and check out the sneak preview.
Nick
PS: And if you could let me know if you could see it that would be awesome

Re: Deadliest Warrior Update
Thanks brother. I was disappointed with the outcome but saw it coming a long way off.
1. If they'd given me a stripper clip like they gave him (and they couldn't find one for my rifle even though they did exist) then his time advantage would have been negated. For it to be fair I think they should have taken his away. He certainly didn't win on accuracy though everyone kept telling me how accurate the .303 is.
2. Re the knife...no tactics at all. He leaps into the middle of two guys, screams a war cry (in a supposed silent killing scenario) and then starts doing jumping kicks. Heck, Tae Kwan Do wasn't invented/formulated till 1954 or thereabouts. They measured my knife at 80 something mph and his at 50 and the doc said I scored way more hits. How do I lose the knife therefore? Hmmm. Doctor said you have to be more accurate with the small knife and I WAS more accurate. Bizarre how they come to their conclusions.
Ah well, I don't think any serious players assume that, because Spike TV said it was so, that's the way it is...otherwise Spetnaz are better than Green Berets. LOL
Appreciate the kind words though mate and am glad you enjoyed the show. I had a heap of fun making it and the Gurkha guy and I actually got on great, not that you'd guess by watching it.
Regards
Nick

Re: Deadliest Warrior Update
Nick,
You did a great job on the show! I was definitely impressed with your knife skills at speed (I have your DVDs but I have never seen you go full blast) and in that scenario your years of martial arts training really showed.
Out of interest how old was the Gurkha? The two of you taking verbal shots at each other was entertaining, I like the "kicking him in the head makes as much sense as punching him in the foot" from a guy who actually has a few head kick kos in the street, it seemed dare I say ironic but few of the viewers would know your background.
Great job and overall you should have won.
Keep up the good work, I am glad it was fun.
Andrew
PS You should make some more DVDs, maybe addressing the FIGHT curriculum or the way you teach Krav

Re: Deadliest Warrior Update
Mate,
He and I were the same age.
Re the kicking comments...it was all part of the show. One had to get in an many jibes as possible and, as I can't kick that high anymore due to the motorbike accident and crushed discs I figured I'd tease him about it.
